Darrem Charles Tribute Page
Darrem Charles PictureDarrem Charles was born July 22, 1969 in Arouca, Trinidad and started training when he was a teenager. Darrem had a good start to his bodybuilding career because the very first competition that he ever entered was the IFBB World Amateur Championships held in 1989 and he competed in the light heavyweight division where he placed 5th.
Darrem stands 5 ft 9 in tall which in metric is 1.75 m and with a competition weight of 235 pounds or 107kg he is an impressive physique to be seen on stage. With his massive 22 inch arms and his narrow waist he gets the attention of any judge very quickly.
Darrem has competed in the Mr. Olympia professional bodybuilders championships 7 times and although has not managed to place he has never given up. His best position he got at the Mr O was 7th place which he got in 2003.
Darrem claims that he prides himself on never using steroids to gain muscle, he says it is all about hard work and discipline and giving 100% 24 hours a day. He explains that the reason why he has not placed higher is because of his gentle demeanor and he is learning to be more aggressive on stage.
Darrem Charles Workout
Darrem uses volume training, he works out twice a day when he is competing or preparing for a competition which is something that most professional bodybuilders do. The sets and reps that he does are usually around 12, 10 and 8 reps for a three set exercise that he is doing.
Darrem is extremely strict when it comes to form and in his own words the warm up that you do when doing legs is going to dictate your future in building your legs. He always does lots of reps of light leg extensions before he starts training his legs.
Darrem explains that the only way to get results when training your legs is to make sure that you do more reps than you would do than when training your upper body. He also insists that when you have a weak body-part that you dedicate a workout specifically for that weak body-part so that you can get it up to par with the rest of your body.
Here is what Darrem would do for his legs when training for a competition which is about two weeks away. As mention above he always starts with leg extensions to warm up first. The rest of his leg training session would look like this:
Leg extension 15, 12, 10,10
Leg Press 15, 12, 10, 10
Squats 12, 10, 10, 8, 8
D/B Split squats 4 X 8
Leg Curls 4 X 8
Standing calf raise 4 X 20
Seated calf raise 4 X 20Note: For information on volume training for natural bodybuilders checkout Muscle Express Training.
